WKID 96.7 FM started in 2004 when CEO Adam "A-Dawg" Baker received a FM transmitter for Christmas built by his dad and adviser of the station, Rodger. The start was of a humble beginning. The transmitter sat on a small, wobbly computer desk in Adam's bedroom. The initial crew of Adam, Eric, Melissa, Michael, Tony, and Tommy printed out interesting news stories and took turns reading them off of one microphone.
Half Way There
In 2006, the crew grew to be twenty-five kids strong. Adam's room was rearranged to include a bunk bed with a desk on the bottom of it for the transmitter.Another desk was also added to print out news easier, along with another microphone to share the air.Spacial Audio was generous enough to provide the station with a third computer for online streaming.Eventually, the transmitter sat on a larger desk.
WKID Today
The station has progressed dramatically since day one. Two more computers were added the further WKID ventured into the cyber world. In addition to the five computers in the station, a laptop is used for streaming live events. Two microphones turned into four, and a 48 channel mixer board houses all the sounds. The crew is thankful for Rodger and Diane Baker, who continue to house the radio station. As for the original transmitter? It still sits atop the shelf in the corner of the station where Adam takes his seat with his peers.
